A visit to Italy wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Eternal City of Rome. With so much to see and do, there is no shortage of activities and sites to keep the family occupied. Here are a few off of our bucket list:
- Pop Bubbles in Piazza del Popolo
Our vrbo apartment is located on via Flaminia, a 5 minute walk to Piazza del Popolo. The large square is filled with bubble blowers and the girls had fun popping the many soap bubbles every day.
- Watch a Street Performer
There is no shortage of street entertainment in Rome. In most of the piazzas and along many streets there are many side shows to keep the kids entertained. Tip: Be sure to have loose change on hand as the kids loved to support the performers.
- Mangia, mangia!
There are so many good eats around the city! The kids loved roasted chestnuts, gelato and loads of pizza and pasta!
- Carriage Ride Through Ancient Rome
We enjoyed a relaxing in a horse drawn carriage ride around the city, focusing the route around the ancient Roman ruins. We stopped at the Roman Forum, went around the Circus Maximus and made our way to the Colosseum before heading back to the Spanish Steps. There are carriages all around the city ready to take you on a tour!
- Play “Where’s Lily” on the Spanish Steps
We showed the kids some “Where’s Waldo” pages and they thought it was so funny. Not sure if Lily fully got the idea but it did make for a cute photo!
- Play an ancient board game in the Roman Forum
Carved into the steps of Basilica Julia is a little board game that was played by ancient Romans! Find little flat pebbles and try to throw them into the holes to win points!
- Have a Scavenger Hunt Around the City
The girls continued with their Italy Scavenger Hunt sheet around the city. Visit our Etsy shop to purchase one for your next trip!
- Throw Coins into the Trevi Fountain
And so the legend goes, that if you throw three coins from your right hand over your left shoulder, you will be guaranteed to return to Rome. We will definitely be back again some day!
