After 3 fast paced weeks in France it was time to enjoy a slower pace in Tuscany. We took the overnight train from Paris, connected in Milan and continued onto Florence. From there we rented a car and made the hour drive to our home for the next 2 weeks, Belmonte Vacanze.
Nestled in the Tuscan hills in a quiet village of Iano, Belmonte Vacanze is a farm holiday residence with self-catered apartments on 200 hectares of farm and woodland.
Renting a car is essential when staying at the agritourismo and we were about an hour’s drive from most Tuscan cities like Pisa, Livorno, Florence, Volterra and San Gimignano. There is a small market in town that offers daily grocery delivery and a couple of really great restaurants are within a 5 minute drive.
We were in Apartment #19, a ground floor Trilo apartment with 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a full kitchen, dining room and patio.
The apartment was clean and well equipped, the beds were comfortable and the kitchen/dining area was spacious to cook full meals in every day. We loved dining outside on our patio with stunning views of the Tuscan hills as far as the eye could see.
Belmonte Vacanze had everything we were looking for in a slower paced leg of our journey. It was the perfect place to relax and unplug, and far enough from the major cities to allow us explore the beautiful Tuscan countryside at our own pace. We had access to the gorgeous pool, playground, bbq, fishing, tennis courts, basketball court and soccer field… there was even a horse riding centre on the property where Avery had private lessons and trail rides a few times a week!
Coin laundry (washing only) is available at the main reception and drying racks are available in our apartment. Note that towels are not included in your rate but are available to rent.
Each apartment is equipped with wifi, but like most of the countryside it is slower than what we are used to in North America. Lauro, the owners’ son, has been working very hard to meet the expectations of his guests and hopes to have fibre optic in the new year!
The best way to experience Tuscany
To truly understand the meaning of la dolce vita you must stay in an agriturismo in Tuscany and Belmonte Vacanze is no exception. The resort is perfect for young families like us looking for a place to unwind and enjoy the countryside. We loved being able to send the kids off on their own to the playground or to play nearby without worry.
It was a great home base for our 2 weeks in Tuscany and perfectly central to all the locations we wanted to visit. We enjoyed of our stay immensely and we thank the Belmonte family for making our stay so pleasant!
