I love taking photos of my kids, food, travelling… freezing time for an instant. The caveat of that is that I’m hardly in any photos with my family. Being on this journey I felt I needed to capture these moments and our family in these amazing destinations. Selfies, while fun, wouldn’t cut it. Handing over my camera to a stranger for a blurry, mediocre photo just wouldn’t do. Trying to source out photographers in another country, let alone another language can be daunting. Trying to find someone to meet my expectations would be a hard task. This is where Flytographer comes in.
What is Flytographer?
Flytographer is a service that hires photographers around the world to capture your special vacation memories. They act as a concierge service that pairs you up with a local photographer in over 190 cities worldwide for that special souvenir of your travels.
Why Did I Choose Them?
I came across a sponsored ad on Facebook a year ago and I thought, “What a great idea for our next vacation”. When we decided to take the biggest vacation of our lives the first thing I wanted to do was to get in touch with Flytographer to book some vacation photos.
Another big plus is the company is CANADIAN!! Their office is located in Victoria, BC and I was fortunate to meet the team and join them for Proscecco Friday. They are such a great group, and it was nice to put the faces to the names and see how hard they work to provide the best service during our travels.
How Does it Work?
Booking a session is quick and simple – you go onto their website, pick your location, pick your photographer based on a series of samples and make your inquiry. If you’re unsure of which photographer to pick they can pair you up with one as well. Each photographer is carefully selected by the Flytographer team ensuring you not only get beautiful photos but have a fun experience with a local who really knows the destination.
You’ll be contacted by a Shoot Concierge to finalize the details between you and your photographer. I was put in touch with Tedi, my concierge extraordinaire. Together we discussed destination possibilities and began the process to book our shoot in Paris. We were paired with Gonçalo who was so much fun and great with the kids. His knowledge of our location helped us pick the right time of day to achieve the look I was going for.
A couple of days before you will be contacted by your photographer to confirm meet up location and any final details, and that’s it!
We had a bit of a hiccup on our shoot day because it rained. Luckily we were still in Paris for another week so we were able to reschedule to a beautiful Wednesday morning before the heat set in.
Although we took the Metro throughout our stay in Paris, we decided to take a taxi to our shoot location to avoid any stress getting there on time.
The shoot went very smoothly and we all had a lot of fun. We ended just as the day started to heat up and we sent the kids to the playground nearby to play. Gonçalo and I chatted for a while after the shoot and it felt like we were friends, not someone I just met a half an hour before!
5 days after the shoot I received an email from Tedi and a link to our online gallery. AMAZING just doesn’t cut it. I actually teared up. To have these special moments captured is the best souvenir I could ask for.
Thank you Gonçalo and Flytographer! We can’t wait to schedule more shoots during our travels!
